New Markets

SOUTH AMERICA: A good prospect medium term.

Back in July ATEC ran a road show to 3 South American countries with a view to establishing contacts for further development of this emerging market.

One of the motivators for selecting this market was the existing Air Services into Sydney from Santiago, Chile and Buenos Aires, Argentina. Qantas has since added 4 services a week ex Argentina and these flights commence 23 September 08. A total of 13 services a week will be the supply into Sydney.

We attended workshops in Santiago, Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo. Guests were a mixture of wholesale and retail agents who currently book Australia as a destination or want to. Public relations was high on the list of importance in order to give high exposure of our visit in the media.

Most recent figures indicate that approximately 50,000 people entered Australia in the past 12 months, the majority coming from Brazil.

As a direct result of this mission Tourism Australia has committed a budget to South America next year and may well take over the roadshow as the visits will continue for a minimum of 3 years.

LTM has added the email addresses of all contacts made in South America to our data base and will continue to show a keen interest in developments in those markets.

Three LTM products (Touring) will feature as a part of a 13 episode series on Australia in Chile early next year. Filming was completed about 3 weeks ago.

New twists (on old favourites)

Following the great success of their Cape Tribulation and Daintree day tour, Billy Tea Bush Safaris are launching a new tour – Chillagoe in a day. Experience the Outback! The tour includes morning and afternoon tea, Tropical BBQ lunch and return transfers and runs three days a week.

Shantara Resort & Spa

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day – so make the most of it with Shantara’s newly available hampers. Freshly made and delivered to your apartment on the day before for your convenience, you will be able to wake up and smell the croissants (or muesli, or fruit, or toast.....) Supper hampers are also available – perfect for late arrivals. Shantara (the Goddess of peace and tranquillity) is a 5 star boutique resort in Port Douglas. With two lagoon - style pools, an onsite day spa and beautifully appointed rooms, this is the ultimate location for couples looking to relax and unwind in a tropical paradise.

Flames of the Forest

This magical evening of theatre, culture and of course dining has recently moved to a bigger and more spectacular site, marking the occasion with a hugely successful cocktail party. Situated approximately 5 mins in distance from the previous setting, the new site “Raintrees” will still offer your clients all the beauty, history and wonder (as well as to die for local cuisine!) you have come to know and love from Flame’s rainforest experience.

Blazing Saddles

Blazing Saddles is a 1200 acre working Cattle Station located only 35 minutes from Cairns. Offering horse rides though rainforest and bushland or ATV rides through the Aussie outback with half day and full day options available.

With new and exciting combos on offer Blazing Saddles now has something to cater to everyone’s taste. Why not combine a horse ride or ATV ride with Hot Air Ballooning, White Water Rafting, Skydiving, Skyrail, Kuranda Scenic Rail or a day out on the reef. The options are endless and tours are available for beginner through to experienced riders.

Check out what some local agents had to say about their day with Blazing Saddles Adventures!!
